Figuring Out What Will Make You Happier

I used to spend a lot of time trying to figure out what would make me happier. Now, I work with a lot of people going through the same thing.

They think if they had a different job, different body, different house, were more successful, got married, got divorced, had different parents or in-laws, had kids that behaved... they’d be happier.

I can relate. I changed schools, jobs, relationships thinking that the grass would be greener. And, it might have been briefly, but it eventually faded.

It’s not the external things that really make us happy—our THOUGHTS about those things make us happy.

If we think that happiness is “out there somewhere” & keep searching for where that is or for what will make us happy, we aren’t appreciating where we are & what we have right now.

Wouldn’t it be better to be happy where you are now instead of looking for things to (hopefully) make us happy in the future? It takes some work but it’s totally doable! We control our thoughts, we control whether we’re happy or not.

What thoughts would make you feel happy about where you are now?

What can you appreciate about where you are / what you have?

Focus on that.

This isn’t to say you shouldn’t strive for more. You should definitely look to keep improving yourself & your environment. But, you can do that from a place of happiness.

By changing your thoughts you can change your life 😃
